pretty paper.

by erin

So after the drama and stress that my wedding invitations turned out to be, it seemed that I would never see another invitation without wanting to simultaneously cry, barf, and drive off a cliff. Apparently, I've recovered, because when I ran across the below invitations on a hilarious blog I've just discovered, I fell in love. Drooling may or may not have been involved.

I love the colors and the map theme. So modern and cool.

and the font. oh my goodness, the font.

the bride found a bunch of vintage stamps on ebay and used them along with a few she purchased at the post office for a unique and amazing final product.

To see how these were made (completely DIY!) check out the bride's blog.

Union.

by erin

This is one of our ceremony readings. I think it is quite lovely.

"Union"

by Robert Fulghum

"You have known each other from the first glance of acquaintance to this point of commitment. At some point, you decided to marry. From that moment of yes to this moment of yes, indeed, you have been making promises and agreements in an informal way. All those conversations that were held riding in a car or over a meal or during long walks - all those sentences that began with “When we’re married” and continued with “I will and you will and we will”- those late night talks that included “someday” and “somehow” and “maybe”- and all those promises that are unspoken matters of the heart. All these common things, and more, are the real process of a wedding. The symbolic vows that you are about to make are a way of saying to one another, “ You know all those things we’ve promised and hoped and dreamed- well, I meant it all, every word.” Look at one another and remember this moment in time. Before this moment you have been many things to one another- acquaintance, friend, companion, lover, dancing partner, and even teacher, for you have learned much from one another in these last few years. Now you shall say a few words that take you across a threshold of life, and things will never quite be the same between you. For after these vows, you shall say to the world, this- is my husband, this- is my wife "

an open love letter

by erin

Dear St. Paul,
I am really going to miss you.

I haven't told you this yet but I am leaving you in 3 short days. Moving across the river to your lesser twin, Minneapolis. I didn't want to have to do this but unfortunately you need to work on making your real estate more affordable. But I digress.

I love so much about you, St. Paul. If you recall, I have lived in probably the greatest two neighborhoods you have to offer: Lowertown and Selby/Dale. Lowertown had an amazing dual life: it had so much to offer (LoTo, Mears Park, the Farmer's Market, the Black Dog Cafe) and it was so close to all the downtown haps (the Xcel, the Ordway, and patio at Great Waters), but it was so quiet on weekends. Our little apartment was lovely and I adored it there.
After moving to Selby/Dale, we learned about a whole new neighborhood. I grew to love Sweeney's, Mississippi Market, L'Atelier Couture, A Piece of Cake, The Happy Gnome, and Nina's. Our lives were changed forever when the Grand Avenue Punch opened. And attending school on Summit and Victoria, I am often found, cupcake in hand (mouth?) at Cafe Latte.

The moral of the story, St. Paul, is that I'm sure there are places in Minneapolis that compare to some of these. Maybe even some that are better. But I'm so in love with you that it'll have to be something incredible. Maybe I'm stubborn, I don't know. But maybe you really are that amazing. I think that's it.

You will always be my first love, St. Paul. Don't forget about me.

Love,
Erin

my lip gloss be poppin

by erin

Anyone who knows me knows that I have few great loves in my life.  My fiance, my sisters, my cats, Junior Mints, shoes, and of course, lip gloss.  It has become a fun game for my friends to guess how many lip glosses I have in my purse/pockets/car/school bag/bodily cavities (okay, ew, forget I said that) at one time.  To give you an idea, it usually falls in the 3 to 8 range.  I just really, REALLY love lip gloss, and as a result, I have tried a LOT of different brands.  I thought I might share my Lip Gloss Expertise because hey, I'm feeling generous.  and I just love them that much.

All-Time Favorite: Victoria's Secret Beauty Rush.  I like any flavor but Strawberry Fizz (I was lucky enough to work there when we launched its matching lotion and after spending several days inhaling the strawberry fizz-scented burning oil, it pretty much makes me want to die).  My favorites are Melonrageous (you bet, with the witty names) and Plumstruck (which they no longer make - tear! - so if you ever find it on ebay please let me know immediately).  Seriously, this stuff = my crack.  I haven't worked at VS for 1.5 years and I just went in a couple of months ago to restock.  That's how much I bought during the time I spent there.  CRACK.

Daily Necessity: Beauty Rush Minty Lip Balm.  As I put this on every night before I go to sleep, I was devastated when they discontinued it - or so I thought!  Turns out they were just redoing the packaging.  I got a few new tins last week and life has been bliss ever since.  aaaahhhhh.

Tarte Double-Ended Lip Gloss: I discovered this when I stumbled into Henri Bendel when I was in New York a couple of years ago.  I must say, I was initially drawn by the cute names (they're all famous couples, i.e. Elle and Emmett, Ferris and Sloane) but they are really great colors and they stay on for a long time (for a lip gloss).  Plus the tubes snap apart so you can mix and match.  Elle and Ferris, WHOA!  You rebel!

Tarte 24-7: oookay, so not technically a lip gloss.  But a great little lip balm with a lot of great, neutral colors.  Love!

eyeslipsface Super Glossy Lip Shine: I branched out and ordered some of this last summer.  It's not as long-lasting as others I've tried, but the color is more intense than your standard gloss.  So I like it for that reason.  Plus it's super cheap.

and the classic...Lip Smackers!  Yes, I'm being serious.  I used these until I was oh, 21 or so.  No joke.  They will always hold a special place in my heart.

For the last three months or so, I have been on a never-ending quest, one which has tested my patience and resolve, and which has caused me no small amount of anguish.  Oh yes, you know the quest I am talking about.  You know it well.  It is the great Quest to Find Cute Winter Boots Which Are Also Functional and Not Too Expensive.

This quest sucks.

Because while the rest of the world has been drooling over Uggs, I have been searching across state lines (aka Minnesota and North Dakota) for boots that don't make me look like a sea creature.  Is it too much to ask, world?  All I want is (faux) fur-lined boots with a rubber wedge, preferably in tan, although at this point I am willing to concede that requirement.  DO THEY EXIST?

No.  Apparently they do not.

So I may have to settle for one of these.  And by "settle for" I mean "love forever" because these are all really freaking cute.

thumbs up, PRESIDENT OBAMA!!

by erin

I found this picture on a friend's facebook page and fell in love with it immediately.  It sums up everything I love about Barack: he is an inspiring leader, he is brilliant, he has the ability to give a flailing country hope just by giving a speech.  But above all that, he loves his wife and his girls, and in that sense, he reminds me of my own father.  Amazing men, both of them.  Today is a happy day.
